Remodeled Moraga Kitchen Features Bold, Blue Range
If a painted enamel range isn't your thing, here are other ways to make a strong statement when you remodel your kitchen:
- Big, Bold Light Fixtures. Instead of mini pendants over your island choose an 18- to 24-inch pendant. Or, plan enough room for sconces flanking the window above your sink.
- Graphic Wall Paper. Yes, you can (and should) hang wallpaper in your kitchen. It adds, color, pattern & texture. Be smart about it, of course. Vinyl wallpapers are tougher than paper-based ones. And, don't hang wallpaper next to your sink or range.
- Out-of-the-Box Backsplash. We all love white subway tile. But, tile is available in an almost endless array of colors and shapes. I put a lavender tile in a display at our studio, and it looks fantastic. No one thought it would, but it does.
- A Splash of Color with Paint. I wasn't going to mention paint because it seems obvious, but...it is the fastest and most budget-friendly way to add a bold splash of color.
Don't forget that bold moves in interior design need to be counterbalanced by simpler, calmer elements. If you're working with a designer (like yours truly), she'll help with that. If not, just lead with one or two "star" finishes or fixtures and let the rest be "supporting cast."
