Remodeled Moraga Kitchen Features Bold, Blue Range

Remodeled Moraga Kitchen Features Bold, Blue Range

A royal blue range may seem out there. But look how perfectly gorgeous it is with white cabinets and countertops. Brass accents and wood floors balance the cool blue & white.

If a painted enamel range isn't your thing, here are other ways to make a strong statement when you remodel your kitchen:

  1. Big, Bold Light Fixtures. Instead of mini pendants over your island choose an 18- to 24-inch pendant. Or, plan enough room for sconces flanking the window above your sink.
  2. Graphic Wall Paper. Yes, you can (and should) hang wallpaper in your kitchen. It adds, color, pattern & texture. Be smart about it, of course. Vinyl wallpapers are tougher than paper-based ones. And, don't hang wallpaper next to your sink or range.
  3. Out-of-the-Box Backsplash. We all love white subway tile. But, tile is available in an almost endless array of colors and shapes. I put a lavender tile in a display at our studio, and it looks fantastic. No one thought it would, but it does.
  4. A Splash of Color with Paint. I wasn't going to mention paint because it seems obvious, but...it is the fastest and most budget-friendly way to add a bold splash of color.

Don't forget that bold moves in interior design need to be counterbalanced by simpler, calmer elements. If you're working with a designer (like yours truly), she'll help with that. If not, just lead with one or two "star" finishes or fixtures and let the rest be "supporting cast."
